I am very overweight and have just discovered I'm pregnant with my second child. My diet has been strictly junk food, but I now want to only eat healthy things for my baby. I expect I will lose weight from not eating the junk food, but is this safe? I will be taking multi-vitamins as well.

Yes, if you are very overweight it is very possible for you to not gain or even lose weight during pregnancy. You have to be careful not to lose too quickly though because this can cause some problems. If you are eating well, taking vitamins and getting a safe light amount of activity appropriate to your size, you should be fine.

This is something you need to discuss with your OB but I can't imagine an OB who would not encourage you to eat well and possibly even follow a special diet. They will most likely be very supportive of your desire to eat right and watch your weight. Your weight makes you at risk for preeclampsia, hypertension, blood clots and gestational diabetes to name a few.so reducing this risk can only benefit you and your baby.

As long as you are eating enough, and eating healthy foods, you will be fine. My sister was overweight before her 2nd child, and lost weight during her pregnancy. Her doctor told her that it was ok, because she wasn't losing too much weight to affect her or the babies health.

Don't ever think to loss your weight when you pregnant. Ask a doctor or any specialist or you will harm your cute little baby.

I am currently 25 weeks pregnant and sitting at a 9lb loss. Yes it is safe as long as you eat healthy and take your viitamns. Not eating junk food will be great for both you and baby.

Just remember baby will take off you first what he/she needs!

Yes, eating less junk food is always good -but I would check with your OBG before starting any over the counter vitamins, etc. If no insurance is a problem go to the nearest planned parenthood facility and they will help you.

Good for you to think of your baby and to decide on a healthier diet with no junk food! Good luck and please get medical help with your decision.......:)
