It can be explained by the psychology. This is called perception. A perception is something like a mind set or understanding of something which people form and is usually influenced by the stimuli or the information coming from the object in question. There must be some indication either in your name, your postings which lead others percet you as a guy.

I am guilty of confusing genders on this site. You read something and when you go to type a reply the avatar disappears. I guess you can call a girl "dude" as it's kind of neutral.

I wouldn't know but your Av. looks like a woman to me. Why does it bother you so much? What does it matter that someone sitting n a chair somewhere in front of the computer screen calls you. Maybe it is the words you have used. I wouldn't know.

I suspect it is partly the fact that some people are too lazy to read the question fully.
The habit of some men to automatically assume 'male' as a default setting probably contributes, as well.

maybe the questions you ask? their isn't much to go on just looking at a cartoon avatar.... your name on here doesn't tell us other wise either. I wouldn't worry about it tho, just correct them when they refer to you as a guy.
