I don't think so...many people have them and I have several piercings, if you don't keep them doctored (clean)...depending on where you get your piercing it's different ways to keep from getting infected...I don't have my tongue pierced but the mouth is one of the fastest healing parts of our body.....Good luck.....

I've had my tongue pierced twice (the second time was obviously through scar tissue), and at one point I stretched it from a 12 gauge (about the average sized barbell that you'll see) to a ridiculous 6 gauge. That said, while it wasn't the most painful piercing I've received, it hurts. It hurts when you get it pierced, then it doesn't so much for about 1/2 an hour, then every time you try to eat or talk it hurts again for about 2-3 days. After that, it's old hat and you'll think it's the coolest thing you've ever done, trust me. ;) I had a ton of fun with it, and it heals quickly when you're over it (or when you accidentally lose it, like I did). It costs anywhere from $40-$80 depending on your part of town (and where that town may be). Things to look out for: bad piercers (infection, hitting a nerve), chipped teeth (metal barbells can do that, especially with a wicked oral fixation), and the ball unscrewing itself and falling off (you either swallow it or lose the barbell). If you're under 25, don't have a job that cares about your tongue, you have the money, and have a good idea of your pain thresh hold, I would go for it. Remember to be very vigilant about your oral hygiene (no alcohol-based mouthwash, trust me)!

It only depends on who does the piercing. Me and my mom both have piercings and nothing happened. But then too it depends on the person and how well they take care of their mouth. A girl that got her piercing from ther same person I did came back the next week with and infection because she wasn't caring for her's. But everybody is different some people just can't have certain parts of their body pierced. Because I had the cartiliage (top) of both m ears pierced and took really good care of them but the one on my left side didn't wanna heal right so I had to let it close before it got any worse and it healed on its own. But because its your mouth you can get sick if you get your tongue pierced and dont take care of it or if it is done wrong the wrong blood vessel can be pierced and I have heard of someone getting a major infection from it. But from a personal view point since I have one and have had it for about a year, do you research and only go to someone who is credible and licensed to do it that way you lower the risk of anything bad happening

I have had my tongue done 3 times didn't hurt much but the healing process does! my nose hurt worse... Yes you can get sick if it's to close to any veins and the needle wasn't sterile!
If you feel your getting ill take it out better safe than sorry! get some mouth wash a few times aday to help any infection if that don't seem to help and also ice cream or a frosty which helps with swelling go see your Dr....

You bet!!!!!!!!! If they accidently reach the blood vessel you could automatically die!!!!!!!! It will hurt more than giving birth to a baby. You can have trouble with eating, injure your gums and teetyh, and have your tounge swollen to the size of a marshmallow. (I'm talking about the big one). It is also 50% of a chance that you will faint during the piercing. Don't do it.

What is possessing you to get your tongue pierced? OF COURSE IT WILL HURT - IT IS SUPPOSED TO HURT! Are you just dumb?
If you bang you head does it hurt?
Why do you want to look so awful and common? The people who have pieces of metal placed in themselves have serious mental problems. Examine your self and see if you can sort out your own insecurities before spending money on making yourself UGLY!

Because the tongue is a muscle and not skin, you run a higher risk of infection, and swelling to the point you suffocate. One of the side effects they don't tell you, and I work in a Pathology lab so I've seen one, is that your tongue can actually die (muscles can die when injured) and need to be removed. I tell ya, you only need to see one of those puppies once in a formalin jar, and you'll change your mind! (And, no, they don't grow back!!)

make sure you eat first cuz you can't eat for the rest of the day. it doesn't hurt while getting it done really, only the swelling and soreness afterwards. just be careful after yer used to it, i've had an accident with mine and that was more painful than gettin it done. that is one of the least painful piercings, i've had a few done. good luck!!
