Not a single accusation offered by Senator Joe McCarthy was ever proven to have any validity or even a hint of credibility.

And, as far as civil law suits for slander are concerned, the floor of the United States Senate is totally exempt from civil suits by anyone. It's a free for all, answerable only to public opinion and what eventually happened, censure.

United States Senator Joe McCarthy was the most reckless politician who ever existed.

However, to answer your question. The game of name calling and character assassination is a definite part of the body politic as it is in our everyday lives and, too often, at the workplace. Is it making a comeback...it never left.

Unsubstantiated facts and innuendo are the products of failure and throw in religion and you get a volatile recipe for blind stupidity. We must never allow anyone, no one, to ever put political blinkers on us and ask us to run as good 'little boys and girls'.

The only way to maintain the integrity of government is to challenge the integrity of government. And, when Senator McCarthy was challenged, not a single charge ever stood up.

We all knew at the time there were Communists in government, but, civil service law at the time prevented anyone from being fired as a Communist. President Truman tried to fire all the Communists. The system needed to be renovated to consider Communists in government in post World War II America.

Bravo and kudos to Edward R. Murrow as a great journalist who publicly exposed Senator McCarthy for what McCarthy was...a fraud.

Absolutely not. Joe McCarthy was a dumb, egotistical, schmuck who picked on everyone as pinkos. He ruined many lives. We don't have anyone who is this class today.

Hmm, I haven't heard it at all. Except maybe when someone expresses ideas that are truly communist.

I believe his name was McCarthy also.
