Is there any car rentals that are having good deals about the first week in Oct.?

If you intend to rent a car to make this trip -- you must be upfront with the rental car company. Most companies will not allow you to take a car out of state. Almost all now have GPS locator recorders on board and if you do go out of state you will be charged up the wahzoo for the trip. All forbid leaving the country.
One man a year ago or so went from LA to LasVegas to Phoenix and back to LA the rental because he went out of state was over $2500. He sued the rental car company and lost.
Bevery careful about renting cars today. You may get burned real bad if you do not follow their rules.

Hertz car rental is probably your best bet. They are always running specials. You can also do a goggle search for car rental specials. Hope this helps.
