and which would keep you just comfortable here, would it be ethical to move to a poor country where the same income would give you a life of moderate luxury?

It's your money, and you can do whatever you want with it. If you spent it in a poor country, you'd be benefiting their economy. There are no ethics involved.

Poor countries can buy only cheap labour, not moderate luxuries, according to principles of economics !
So the example may suit only exceptions where the economy is controlled by a dictatorial government !
Ethics never advocated wasting life just because there is provision for necessities !

Nah, I wouldn't want to leave my country. I'd just get a job and the extra income would supplement me enough to have a bit of luxury right here.
