When writing a cover letter to send with my resume, is it ok to use the person's name instead of "Dear Sir"?

Being in that field, the letter gets personalised when named to someone. Many CV's subjected 'to anyone concerned' just shows deseprate to get a job many a times.

I agree with gtn and F. BUT it should be addressed to (title) (name) - Dear Mr. Jones; Dear Ms. Smith. Do your homework first and be polite. Good luck!

Yes. In fact is is better. It shows that you took the time to find out who it should go to.
