It's possible using wireless and satellite technology. I suspect the connections might sort of come and go, since communications satellites are in geosynchronous orbit and the astronauts are much lower and change positions relative to comm sats.
Any astronauts out there doing Yahoo answers? That would be a great source.

If phone can work wireless up there, why not email? They will use satellite connection.. it is similar to having access to internet in the remotest island of pacific, if you have subscription for satellite web connection.

Yes, this is how they e-mail their families back home. But they can only use it when they have off time because they are SUPER busy. I think they can only use it to send e-mail.
