Binary Iteration ( Numerical Analysis) is one method...

for example, you assume the square root of 1234.56
is either 20 or 40
now test both
20^2=400
40^2=1600
you find that 1234.56 is between 400 and 1600
so, sqrt(1234.56) is between 20, 40
so, you try (20+40)/2 which is 30
30^2 =900
Now since 1234.56 is between 900 and 1600
you test(30+40)/2 which is 35
35^2 = 1225

and so on.. until you reach the closeset number.

(35+40)/2 =37.5
37.5^2 = 1406.25

(35+37.5)/2= 36.25

36.25^2= 1314.06

(35+36.25)/2 = 35.75

35.75^2 = 1278.06

(35+35.75)/2 = 35.375

35.375^2= 1251.39

(35+3.375)/2 = 35.1875

35.1875^=1238.16

(35+35.1875)/2= 35.09375

35.09375 ^ 2 = 1231.57

(35.09375+35.1875)/2 = 35.140625

35.140625^ 2= 1234.86

basically doing it manually you guestimate...in your number listed you would aim close to 1200 then zero in on the exact number. ex 30x 30 to low 40x40 too high so u would already know u near 35 as sq root
manually is a process of trial and error as well as test of patience
