Hey Mac,
its gotto to do with the gender prototypes my friend. Your observation may not be relevant to all the cultures / societies.
Its not uncommon in many cultures/societies to entrust the complete responsibility of the HOME to the lady no matter whether she's a homemaker or buzy in the external world as an earner.
It is this responsibility, that makes the women control freaks as far as the home affairs are concerned - cos in such house holds, when things don't workout, its the lady who needs to rollup the sleeves and get down to fixing them.
Its the same reason why men become control freaks at work where they are the bosses :)
Coming to the denial, its thier modesty i guess, and also since this dominance is not intentional but circumstantial. So they may not be too happy brow beating about their dominance.

My Dad ruled our house. he ruled everything. he was and is a control freak. do you think it's fair that the dad rules everything? beats up wife for talking without permission? beats Daughter (me) for helping Mom? so please maybe some wives rule but not all of them

I dominate the cooking and decorating and cleaning. My husband dominates the repairs. And we are equally dominate of how it is run. Neither one of us is the "boss", nor wants to be.... we work together to make it work.
