Actual the answer is no. By law you are not allowed to copy someone elses work. People do it all the time. Some say its alright if its just for your entertainment but they would be wrong. The only time you can copy such work is when you have permission. Like you by a PC game some will tell you you can a copy so you have a back up disc but you can not give it away or sell it.

The issue here is copyrights. If the material is something you purchased, yes, you can make a backup copy, for your own use only. It is illegal to sell or give away the copy. On your computer, that means YOU and YOU ALONE are within the law to make a backup copy of anything you own, software, audio, video, whatever. If any other person uses your computer and plays the file, then you are breaking the law (i.e., giving it away). Napster was taken to court for copyright infringement and all they did was make it possible to share files, and if someone else plays a file on your computer, you would be just as guilty as they were.I can't believe how many people seem to think this is OK, like with the other 2 times you have posted this same idea.

Fair, yes, you own the cd, so you own the sounds on it. But you may NOT allow any others to have access to it. So it is not legal to copy a pre-recorded CD or anything that is Copyrighted onto a PC that is or has the potentially to be online.
Just google DRM or DMR look at the Microsoft link that appears, is all explained there and at Apple.com

I think so, I rip CD's all the time for my mp3 player. As long as you purchase it originally, you should be able to make as many copies as you want.

Why not - you have paid for one copy - as long as you don't try to sell copies, you are NOT breaking any piracy laws.

Not to the artist....they don't get the credit for it. That could be considered to be illegal.
