Im personally scared to death of needles. But I got a tattoo a year ago. I thought I was going to cry when I went and got it.I brought my boyfriend with me and made him talk to me to keep my mind off of it,after 15minutes I was perfectly fine. Honestly it only hurts a little. It feels like someone is pinching your skin kind of hard and after 15minutes your pretty much numb to it, I mean you can still feel it but it feels like the pinching sensation isnt as hard. The outline is the part that hurts a little but not much and the shading on the tattoo is the easier part.It also depends on where on your body you get. Suppossebly your calf or side of your leg is suppossed to be the part that hurts the least. My advice is if your nervous bring a friend or someone with you and have them talk to you while you get it done, trust me it will keep your mind off it. Try readin this article about "if tatoos are painfull"-

I have some tattoos and I used to do some tattoo work, plus my best friend he still is a tattoo artist. They don't hurt like everyone claims they do. It really depends on the location cause some areas are more pain-full. Trust me having a baby hurts far more then any tattoo.
People will tell you it depends on the color of ink. That is a LIE it haves nothing to do with it. It all haves to do with the location. Most places there is very little pain at all. The outline hurts more then the shading.
If you are skinny and you get it on your lower back there will be a bit more pain then other locations. Your lower back and your over your rib cage is the most painful.

I got a fairly large one on my upper back took about 8 hours to complete. Everyone says the outline hurts more, but I have to dissagree. The outline was fast and on a scale of pain 1-10 it was a 3. The color was a 6. It was more of a burning feeling for me. After a few hours I felt like my entire back was on fire. I never went numb, as some people say they have. IT WAS WORTH IT!!!!!!! I love my tattoo.

The level of pain depends on what part of the body you have it done. Directly over a bone hurts more than a fatty area. I have heard that the lower back hurts the most. The outline hurts the most.....then endomorphines kick in.

I have 3 tats, one on my upper arm, didn't hurt much at all,one on my right outter leg,not much pain there either, one on my left inner ankle, that sucker hurt lemme tell ya...If you plan on getting one,I wouldn't get anything big with alot of detail the first time, get somethin small and with not a huge amount of color.Just to see if you can handle the pain.Just remember they are permanent. Not even surgery can guarantee a removal if you change your mind so make sure you really want it and make sure its somethin you can live with forever

it feels like an electric shock combined with pins and needles poking you...especially in the lower back. Why there, that is so already done. I would think of a more original way to look like everyone else.

Depends how big the tattoo is, where you get it, and what your pain tolerance it. I got mine on my hip and the feeling of being tickled was harder to stand than the pain. I was with my friend when she got hers on the outside of her ankle though, and she was almost crying, and nearly passed out. I've been told by a guy friend who got one on the back of his neck that it actually felt really good getting his - like an intense massage.

I heard that the needle stabbing in and out of your skin with eventually numb it a bit. If youre afraid of the pain then ask the tattoo-ist to give you numbing gel.

It depends on where you want it. certain places hurt worse. I have one on my shoulder...and i loved it. I also tolerate pain very well and blood doesn't bother me. I would like to get one on my foot but i think that spot would hurt cause there is so much bone. I'm addicted to tatoos now, and can't wait to get another.

at first it hurts.. but you go numb and you really can't feel it anymore
the best thing to do is relax, and do not tense your muscles, breath and focus on something other than the pain
granted on your lower back it is going to sting and hurt, but as i sated earlier relax.
