Telemarketing ranks as a very hard job. Most people (including myself), hate telemarketing. You need a lot of patience and drive. Pay varies, but from what I've heard from close family and friends, doesn't seem dependable.
People ranging from idiotic to vulgar and angry will be calling, especially if you join a company with bad practices. I have given a fair share of telemarketers an earfull because their company couldn't get it straight to stop calling.
Minimum age depends on local labor laws.

Telemarketing can be very rewarding and very frustrating all at the same time. You get to speak with all kinds of people, sometimes from all over the United States. But with that comes very rude people. You have to have thick skin, not let what they say get to you. If you can’t do that then this type of job is NOT for you. If talking to people, helping people and being persuasive then yes being a telemarketing is for you! One advice I do have for you is before starting with a telemarketing company ask who you will be calling and what are you supposed to accomplish on each call.

omg - i can't believe you just said it sounds easy. It's not. I was one for about a month, and HATED EVERY SINGLE MINUTE. All you do is try and convince people to do this or that, and constantly get rejected, hung up on, sworn at. Seriously, do you like it when those people call your house asking you to buy c r a p???? I certainly do not and that is why I will NEVER go back to that sort of job ever again. I only did it because I was desparate for some cash but it did not last long. I swear you could probably be 10 and they would hire you because not everyone sticks with it.
Something you should know - it sucks.
