Yes! The iPod is slightly more expensive than other MP3 Players!
However you must consider the Following:(NOTE- I am only using iPod for Audio ONLY-Other hardware exists for Video playback)

Do you use Mac or P.C.?
If you use Mac then it makes sense to maintain continuity when buying an MP3 Player, main reasoning behind this is that Mac Compresses files tighter (Whilst maintaining Audio Quality) Therefore you can get more tracks on an iPod sourced from a Mac Running iTunes than that of a P.C. running an Emulated version of iTunes designed for the P.C. Format.

I do Use Macs Professionally, but also P.C.'s as well- so my thoughts are only biased in that I know what has always worked well for Me!

You have also got to admit the stylish looks and ease of use do tend to put The iPod up there with the Greatest icons of The 20th Century

I think Ipods are expensive because of their brand and it is very widely known.

Because it is made of magic pixie dust, which is a rather expensive component to obtain.
