About how they decide if someone can be in a show -- they have doctors there who will weigh the models and measure their height. They are then computing their BMI which is a standard used by doctors even in the U.S. for determining body mass. I don't remember what BMI they must have to not be considered "emaciated" or "unhealthy." They said they don't want any waif thin or heroin chic thinness.

Is amusing how skinny models have thwarted our view of nature, since this is the second question that they say that the banning is bad for the naturally skinny. Its like saying that banning steroids on sports is unconstitutional because it outlaws the naturally Strong. It´s the UNNATURALLY SKINNY models that they are tying to ban, people!!!

I don't think thin models are the problem.
I think if young girls are having problems emulating what they see on television and on the runway then it's the girls who have the problem.
Did it ever occur to anybody that conformity is the issue here?
Why is everybody turning into a herd of sheep? Why is it that these little morons pay more attention to the model than what the model is modeling? The idea after all, is to sport clothing and sell a product- they're models, not hookers- and I myself could really give a damn what the model looks like.

They're advertising clothing for Christs sake.

Maybe the problem isn't the models- maybe the problem is the little dumbasses who think it's necessary to do what everybody else is doing.
I also think that it's about time the youth of today found something else to aspire to- why is it that these little tards are looking up to models instead of doctors, teachers or intellectuals?
We need to reexamine our values here and question why we condone this nonsense.
As parents and role models ourselves we need to focus on our ******* priorities here.

I applaud Spain for bucking the trend. It is way overdue!!
Milan, Italy is talking about doing the same thing, and there is pressure being put on London, as well.
The "starvation" look has gone on way too long, and there is nothing attractive about "skin and bones".
Yes, there are some naturally thin people. But the majority do NOT look like that. It would be nice to see what clothes would look like on normal women.

skinny models never bothered me. i just figured theyre just there to show the clothes but i understand most real women dont wear size 00. so i think being more realistic and influencing is a good thing. But i think even if the models are a size 5 or 7, they'd still live the same lifestyle.

allthough their intent is probably good

government interference of this kind is unlikely to have the intended affect and just as likely to backfire completely

who decides just how "healthy" a model has to be in order to model

if someone is just very thin by nature, and can't easily put on weight, is it really right to discriminate against them and bar them from a type of work, that sounds like a civil rights issue

"skinny people to the back of the bus"

governments should stick to basic governing and the things that private enterprise cannot do

parents and families should work to help their children develop healthy self images with healthy bodies

i think emaciated models not pleasant to look at, and the whole idea is silly, but I don't want draconian and, in the end pointless, government interference

BOUT DAGGUM TIME SOMEBODY DID!!

There have been too many young women who already ruined their health by starving to get that waif look. That shriveled up, dry as popcorn appearance. It has to stop. No industry should have that kind of control over young peoples impression of what is right or not, especially if it affects their health.

HOORAY FOR SPAIN.
Come on France, USA, Italy, wake up next.....................

i think it sends a clear message that it is unhealthy and unacceptable to starve a body for fashion. at the same time some people are naturally thin and it infringes on the rights of individuals to do what they choose to their body... a tough question!

If the whole fashion industry did the same there would be a lot more healthier people (mind, body and spirit) in the world..

to strengthen healthy human beings, healthy place fashions are required. and not employing a male one living contained in the domicile? would be achieveable. without one? No. Abused human beings finally end up screwed up in one way or yet another.
