MLB rule 10:04 a states the batter shall be credited with RBI, if he gets a hit, fielders choice with less than 2 outs, sac fly or a base on balls.

because the batter drew a walk (which takes a certain amt. of skill) and thus forced a run in, this counts as an RBI. in this case the B is still considered 'batted' in because the batter was involved (although indirectly) in getting the run in. The irony is that there was no bat involved as you pointed out. maybe there should be a separate stat, called "RWI" (run walked in), or howabout RWUIS (Run Walked In Under Influence of Steroids.) :-)

The batter is still considered responsible for the discipline and plate presence to create the walk that led to the run.
Batters draw walks. They are not just presents from the mound.

funny, I was pondering on this same question the other day. I guess because it has to be considered something, the batter did have some play in that taking place. The pitcher wasn't pitching the catcher...the batter is responsible for it....in a way. I hope that makes sense.

Come on now, that is a silly question. How long have you been watching BaseBall?
The guy at bat did just that, he batted the other runner in.
