We had not seen them in awhile and were kind enough to drive to their town. we did not let them know that it hurt our feelings.........but I am still upset and am thinking of letting them know it, this is not the first time it has happened!!!!!!!

Call your sister and say the following "Sis, I have something to say which has been bothering me. If something was bothering you that I did, I would want you to tell me so we could clear the air and I hope you feel the same." (wait for her response - she will prob. say something like "omigosh, what is it!!??"
Then you say, "Well, I hope you don't think I am being nit-picky or making too much of this matter, but we were kind of surprised and hurt that you didn't wait for us to arrive before you ordered your food. I thought we would all order and then eat together. That's why we drove there, to spend some time visiting and sharing a meal." At this point, the ball is in her court and how she reacts will determine whether or not you have a caring and understanding sister, or a selfish one. (Hint: Maybe her husband insisted he was too hungry to wait).

This is the kind of social problem that is more a matter of interpretation than anything else. They probably felt that you were late and there was no reason why They couldn't start without you. You probably felt like the evening would be more entertaining if they had waited. STOP THE NONSENSE. You can have a perfectly nice evening together regardless of the fact that they are a course ahead of you. If your going to judge people in the first place which is always a bad idea, the first rule of thumb is to assume the best not the worst. this way instead of looking around for slights and mistreatment you can value your relationships, and enjoy yourselves more. The flip side of this is that next time their late put a smile on your face and DIG IN. By the way let me guess. This is not the first time you were late was it?

It doesn't really mean they don't appreciate your time and effort, it's just that maybe almost everybody is really already hungry and the food served is starting to get cold.
I doubt if you'd also want to eat cold food and/or wait for 15 minutes or more when everyting else is well prepared for.
If you are the host or guest of honor, then you should feel bad. But if you are just one of the guests, maybe you should just set aside your personal feelings.

Go ahead and talk to your sister about it. Don't let too much time go by otherwise it will seem like you are being petty and dwelling on it, which you're really not. How rude! You're not ever supposed to order before everyone gets there, let alone eat!

Yeah, that would bother me some, but not because of the one hour drive.I live in the country, and everything is about an hour away from me;the doctors, dentists, malls, grocery store, hospital, pharmacy, etc. If it really does bother you that much, you need to find a tactful way to let your sister know.

I would definitely let them know. That was just plain rude!! I would have said something at the time, then turned around and left them to finish their meal by themselves.

I would let them know, when they ask you to meet them again. And before you even think of saying anything you have to get over your anger,or you might end up never talking again.
