If these are strawberries that have been established in the backyard, simply find one of the runners, follow it out to a Nodule and cut before and after the nodule and you will have another strawberry plant to put in a pot or in the ground. I have several strawberry pots that are the product of transplanted strawberries. If you are in a warm but mild tempurature, try putting them in a hanging basket (they need alot of water this way). The runners hang down over the sides and they still produce nice berries.

If you are in an area of the Midwest, you plants are about to hibernate for the winter....leave them where they are if you can...until spring. When the first few leaves come up, transfer to a prepared spot as soon as you can, watering well for a couple of weeks.
If you are in warmer climates, you can still set out pots of loose loam or seed starter and place the end of the runners your strawberry plant should be producing into the moistened pots and soon you will have a baby plant. When you need to move it, cut the runner between the plant and both plants will produce more runners the next year.

No, I think you just plant about 25 to 50 plants, and in a few years, they will actually take over the yard. Some people think of them as weeds that just ruin the lawn. (these people mow to often to get the strawberries)

no. it is not. do you have those really tiny strawberries that taste sour? if so, those arent very good to eat. if you have actual strawberries it would probably be a good idea to plant a strawberry in a little pot of potting soil. it will get a better start that way.
