JV only has freshmen and sophomores on it, Varsity almost always has Juniors and Seniors, altho it is possible for sophomores and even freshmen to get on varsity teams if they are insanely good.

Varsity is the top level. The best athletes usually get on the varsity team. They go to tournaments and compete for state titles. JV (Junior Varsity) is a level down. Some athletes get moved up to varsity from here if they are needed. Pretty much a way for kids who didn't make varsity to still participate. Frosh/Soph is mainly for first year athletes. Freshmen and/or Sophomores who didn't make it to varsity or JV stay here. Here they learn the game and the rules but still compete versus other schools.

Well,

some schools have a Freshman team, JV team and Varsity team.
Freshman teams can have ONLY Freshman players. JV can have Freshman, Sophmores, and Juniors. Varsity can have any that are good enough to play.
