Yes. My background is research in cybernetics, cognitive sciences, and computer tech. My group has used the "auto-epistemolgical" approach to the creation of "machine intellect" fashioned after the mapping of the "Collectiive Human Intellect" - we refer to this as the CHI Factorization. For me, there is absolutlely no doubt that the potential exists and may even be inevitable. As far as "taking over the world" that depends upon who is creating the sentience... we can allow for a conscience, a sense of loyalty, humor, etc.... IT all DEPENDS on US, collectively speaking.
For the insightful question, I'd like to invite you to my group's "outreach" blog at blogspot.com:

the internet dosnt have that copacity but once we get smart computers useing human dna to make them then were gone eg a computer dosnt have eathics so it may decided new york is over populated how do we stop that add extra clorene to the water and kill off a few hundred thousand people sure you or me would never think of that as a solution but a computer would thing that is a great idea so it would contact the computer controling the water supply and tell it to make the changes it wants

A. extraterrestrial beings do if reality be told exist. their deliver became got here across to have coordinates to a region which we call "atlantis" so all of us understand they have bases deep interior the unexplored oceans. As for faith, I unquestionably have puzzled this myself. they have made human beings have faith in faith yet this may be via fact they looked as though it would return from the sky and had huge improved technologies. not via fact they informed us they have been Gods or something. even nevertheless that's what ancients theory they have been. i might quite pick to appreciate what their society is like myself. the only ingredient i understand approximately them is they're susceptible bodily (those are the greys), they have paintings with our government to do genetic breeding to make their race improved bodily. As for the different ones, that are reported to be very aggressive and look very like bugs. i understand not something greater advantageous than this approximately them. i won't be in a position to think of those ones have souls. Do bugs have souls? mammals do, yet do bugs and snakes and chilly blooded predators? I doubt it. i like this question that's precisely like the kind of ingredient i think of upon for all time.

I wouldn't be surprised. I went to the supermarket today and the cashier had to count out. Not count out manually but they had this device that weighed the loose change and counted the bills. What happened to the old way?? I couldn't believe it...what is this world becoming??

no.... because there is a limit to how rich the world to become, the way the global economy is heading with oil prices and availability etc, i predict the common person will be less likely to have a computer (especially in developing, undeveloped countries)
