My niece had severe constipation as a toddler and continues to as an adult. She was prescribed a teaspoon of mineral oil a day. As she got older, they put her on Citrucel daily to avoid any constipation. Do not use laxatives. Flax seed is another natural and good source of fiber to induce bowel movements. Also, increase her water intake. Prune juice is sometimes too thick for kids but water it down a little and she may like it. Even if you have to add a little bit of sugar. It is unhealthy for her not to have a daily bowel movement. The toxins in your stool need to be expelled everyday. Bananas are very constipating. Green apples are good. Apple sauce and juice are good.

Try some dried fruit. some dried apricots or paw paw work really well and they wont be harsh like a laxitive. Any fruit that she likes is good and dried fruit can be sweet and eaten like lollies. Let her eat as much as she wants. Paw Paw is extra good for constipation but may be difficult to get depending on where you are. Of course, prune juice works well but she may not like it.
A hot bath with epsom salts in the water can help too & be gentler than drinking them. The salts are absorbed through the skin and are not a laxitive but help with fluid in the bowel. When constipated it becomes hard and compact so more fluid can help soften and lubricate it making it less painful.

Make sure she's well hydrated by drinking plenty of apple juice and water. Making sure she's getting plenty of exercise may help to get things flowing. Try cutting back on her dairy intake bananas included. Try switching to 2% milk instead and from white bread to a wholegrain white bread. Make sure shes getting plenty of fruits in her diet like grapes, strawberries, plums etc. You may even try a stool softener that has to be inserted in her bottom if she's in pain from the constipation just ask a pharmacist for advice or her pediatrician...

My children also had problems with constipation. Fruits fiber and plenty of water. I even had to use flavored water for my kids because they were not big water drinkers. relaxing may work to. I do not recommend oils to much. It keeps the stomach from digesting valuable vit and mineral that they need. Supp. work good to. I do not recommend laxatives. They have a tendency to make the bowl lazy and not want to work with out the laxative. Don't give MOM. that shrinks the colon in children.

That use to happen to my son at about the same age. It was part constipation, but also part of him could not relax while in the toilet because he wanted to be out doing other more fun activities. I brought him books and magazines to the restroom to read while he went #2. It worked. Taking his mind off of having to do #2 helped him go. He is now 8 and takes the books, magazines and even his gameboy with him to the toilet. Good Luck.

I am going through similar thing with my daughter, we all know to increase fibre, also lots of apple juice, and if you can get her to take it in the mornings or evenings as long as you are consistent, a tsp of mineral oil once a day will soften her up and she will be able to go with ease, good luck to you and your daughter.
