I was in Grade3. At about half way through the term, our teacher went out of the class. I could not work out the sums, so I asked the girl next to me.The teacher called anyone who asked her for help "Silly girls" She came back into the classroom at that point and asked wjho was talking. We both stood and she said to my classmate "You stood first, sit down. Rose come out here!"
I went out to her desk and was made to bent over it. She pulled up my skirt and caned me six times on the back of the thigh.
Was this usual in schools of the 5o's/60's.?

In parochial schools - yes. My hubby got hit all the time in parochial primary school and he hated it there. I went to public school, and was smacked with a ruler on the funny bone by my left elbow all the time one year because I was left handed. I learned that year to write right handed, and now I am ambidextrous (as I still would not quit writing with my left hand otherwise). That was the only teacher who did that in my classes though. (She thought left handed people had demons in them, so she was attacking the demon in her mind).

Very much so, and worse if you went to Catholic school. I wasn't listening one day in 4th grade and the nun picked me up by my ears. They were bruised for a week! The only thing my parents did was told me that I should have been paying attention. Unreal!

i once had a mlae teacher keep me after class and he sodomized me very feriously. i think that was probably normal too.. i wnet to catholic school
