If you want to get rid of anxiety naturally then try valarian... I would look for a supplement that had it mixed with other things like kava kava, chamomile, peppermint... or other things that are known relaxants. You can also try meditation and or bio-feedback before you go on a trip. Meditation always helps me to relax.

my mom is the exact same way and my dad is more than happy to accommodate her fears. he just lets her drive and falls asleep in the passenger seat on road trips....
they used to have to drive thru 5 states to visit us when we were in college, and she never sought help. i am impressed that you recognize this as an actual problem, not, as my mom said, "a control thing that i'll probably never get over."
to me, i think that a bit of classical conditioning would go a long ways to help you. maybe you could schedule a session or two with a counselor if your insurance will cover it. our insurance covers 4 visits per year per family member and maybe yours does too. if not, look up classical conditioning and work to find a what reward would work for you each time you RIDE in the car. (reward not meaning a trophy, but something that you already feel is pleasant and might start to associate THAT pleasantness with your passenger experiences, ergo transferring some of the good feelings & pleasantness into your thoughts about being a passenger....if you really love coffee, have a cup while you ride, or maybe there are some songs you really love but don't hear often, buy the CD and listen each time you're a passenger, etc.)
good luck, way to take charge of your life rather than let your fears & dislikes rule over you.

I am very uncomfortable being a passenger in a vehicle.. I don't really do anything about it though. except just try to always be the driver. If I am stuck in a situation where I am not the driver I just grin and bare it and hold on tight.....

Try to find a place that teaches you bio-feed back. I did it many years ago and can still use it in stressful situations. Eventually you will just do it automatically. You could try a little motion sickness med also and that will keep you calm.

OH MY GOD, YES. I cannot stand to be driven anywhere, and I am quite convinced that I am the best driver around. I must be in control. Others just are not smart about driving.

It's not you it's those crazy drivers who know you are sensitive to poor driving and try to scare you anyway. I have the same thing. As soon as someone finds out I get freaked out in cars when they drive bad then they start driving worse just to make me jump and yell!!!! stop getting in cars with people you know drive crappy.

I am, but I've found nothing to alleviate my anxiety. I'm always the driver.

Try fidget toys, books or something to relieve the anxiety.. It might help some.. yes, I have this problem too. Sometimes, stopping at rest stops help, too.
Good luck!
