Most people judge based on their experience. Few put oneself in others shoe and feel what it was like.
Thus, how would non-muslim, not ever study Islam, would judge muslim's reaction as being over-reacting?
I am not a muslim, and have read up on Islam. It is not a religion I would choose. In reading Benedict's quote, I was at a loss as to what his intent was in quoting that text.
The fact that an emperor made that statement does not make it correct. And so, why did Benedict quote it for? Is it because he agrees with it? Even so, what would quoting that do? To provoke over-reacting? Should he, as a leader, know better?
As for Bush, he is a lost cause. I have a hard time defending America when I travel overseas with current administration's behavior.

Pops quote at the time when Islam is going with such a phase where it is already being understood as cruel religion, is very senseless and childish. Instead of bringing together all Muslims and Christain, he is doing opposite. I ask what is the need of this at first place?
This also shows, how much knowledge he has about Islam.
You say freedom of speech. I ask you, if you love someone like ur Father or Mother and someone insult him or her, would you not react and sit peacefully thinking that its freedom of speech, so let him say. May be you could be that kind of person but not we Muslims.
If we insult Jesus(pbuh), which we can't, will you not react? May be even that does not bother you.
Today majority of peoples believe that Islam spread by sword. I ask them, if Iran, Indonesia, Pakistan, Malaysia etc all know this, why they are stick to Islam and proud of it.
About Bush's comments. I would say, Christains should respect their Prophets (Abraham, Moses, Jesus be peace be upon all of them) and Mohammed (pbuh). Because all had spread the same message and send by GOD. We Muslims respect all of them because Mohammed(pbuh) had asked us to do so and Qur'an had various versus about them and praising them.
I would say pop to have some knowledge about Islam first instead of quoting some thing which 14th century emperor had quoted.

Let's see. It is a FACT that Benedict was an active member of the Hitler Youth organization growing up (look it up). It's also a fact that Bush was an alcoholic, work dodging, coke head and has brain damage beyond repair.
It's baffling to me that people attack the tactics of one religion as having used violence to spread, when Christianity had done the same. Remember the Christian crusades? Did they not have swords? Were they fighting with stems of roses? I don't get it. People need to read up and find out the truth before bashing one religion and then being surprised when people are offended. If more christians and moslems were offended when truth is blurred and agendas are pushed through lies, the world would be a better place. READ READ READ and find the truth before blindly accepting bigotted ideologies. Your leaders are not as innocent as you think; be it the president or the Pope. They're just people, get them off the holy pedestle and learn to think for yoursleves.

Unfortunately, our world has gotten to the point where Muslims over-react to pretty much anything directed towards their religion.
Judaism has been insulted for 6000 years. Christianity has been insulted for 2000 years. Islam has been insulted for almost 1400 years. Adherents to every religion have to realize that there is someone out there who will not agree with their point of view. And part of getting along in the world is accepting that.
And by the way, President Bush said something? Honestly, I haven't paid attention to anything he's said in oh, 6 years...

I firmly be live that President Bush, who is a deeply religious man, did not actually say "God told me... anything."
President Bush prays everyday... follows what is in his heart.
It's very easy, and I mean EASY, to second guess his decisions.
What is popular is to knock him, and make fun of him.
To do this, is an insult to our country, and what we are, as a country stand for.
And belive me, It's everyone's right to dissent.
I belive, and love the 1st amendment.
We are at war. That battle was brought to us.
September 11, 2001 was a brutal day.
"We" were attacked, and innocent people were murdered.
We, as a nation were finally drawn into the conflict that faces the world, yesterday, today, and tomorrow.
On December 7, 1941... we, as a country had to face the truth.
I remind you all, to remember President Bush in his State of the Union (remember that word.. Union) Address In January, 2002.
I remember that day, as I had just gotten off work...
I was shopping with my family at Sears.. and every television in that store, and for that fact, around the world was on.
The world just.. stopped. The registers became silent.
I looked around, and NOBODY was shopping. They all were staring at the TVs.
All of the adults had tears in their eyes when the President of The United States stated our purpose and resolve.
I will never forget that moment.
We in America seem to have short memories.
On January 20, 1961.. before I was born... I remember these words....
"We shall pay any price, bear any burden, to assure the survival and success of liberty."
Who said that? He was a combat, and decorated veteran of
WW II.
He said It to a world audience.
To the Soviet Union.
"Ask NOT, what your country can do for you....
Ask what YOU can do for your country."
That's right, John F. Kennedy as he spoke to the people of the
United States of America upon his inauguration as President of The United States.
Those are some mighty big shoes to fill.
Just think about It.

Yes, they are overreacting and the Pope didn't do anything wrong. He has a univeral right to Freedom of Speech and those Muslim extremists need to learn to shut their traps and get an attitude adjustment.
