YES - 6 weeks is not even that long. Tell your boss, before he notices. You have nothing to worry about - your job is protected. You cannot be fired for being pregnant, or taking a maternity leave.
And don't feel guilty about the time off. You are entitled and personally, I think it's not enough time!

I understand being nervous as I am telling my boss tomorrow! I am 12 weeks. You should tell him soon since you are so far along....don't feel bad about the 6 weeks...I'm probably going to take about 8 weeks....unfortunately for us who live in the States, we don't have the options a lot of women have in other countries. Hopefully laws will change soon so we are able to take paid time off with our little ones. My 8 weeks is going to be unpaid, I'm just happy that they have to give me the time and hold my job. I didn't realize the benefits our friendly northern neighbors had...and maybe they don't realize the benefits we don't have down here...

SIX WEEKS!!!
Is that all you get in California??
We get a year.
damn.
You'll have to tell him sooner or later. It's usually not a big deal, and most jobs can create modified work for you if they're dangerous or physical.
You're not the first person to work pregnant, don't be scared. Bosses expect it with women.

Yup in Canada we get a year for Maternity leave. It takes about 6 weeks to get it into effect. Some companies try and get you back to work after 6-8 months .. but for most its a year ..You apply for it and then after the first couple weeks of filling out cards or making phone reports you have to continue to fill out cards or phone it is just automatically deposited to you account.
Really easy.
6 weeks eh? That is barley enough time to get back on your feet!
I was still walking funny at 6 weeks, still bleeding and still hurting.. I felt like I had gotten kicked in the box with steel toes!
I feel for you.. 6 weeks.. you should see if maybe you can get some extra assistance from welfare or even see if you can take some extra time off of work.
You mentioned that you will not get maternity leave... why not?

You are entitled to six weeks of maternity leave as in the family and medical leave act. Check with you employer how you will get paid. Tell your boss when you are ready...but not too much longer because you will begin to show. Nothing to be afraid of.

Tell your boss soon because you will be showing. The law says they have to give you maternity leave and take you back.
Your boss will just to deal with it.
