IF and I repeat, IF it were possible to "boil it down" to one word that word jumps out when these answers have been read.

First, it is NOTpossible to boil our WORST shame in all our history down to a single example. Interesting question to grapple with though. In AMERICAN history I would say the Lincoln assassination. (The Kennedy, King and R. Kennedy in just 5 years is a close second. They to opened hatred in our society.)

The Licoln killing alllowed the LESSER angels of our nature to take hold and dictate post Civil War policy which held Blacks (and there-for Whites too) back for a hundred years. It was Lincoln an inaugural speech who beseeched us to heed "the better Angels of our nature.")

In WORLD history, The Crusades far and away are the worst "single" event. "It" exacerbated the frictions between the world's major religions to a point where there is still horrible feuding many centuries later.

And that brings us to the single word "boild down." Huamn kinds' greatest shame is hatred as exhibited right here. One post says in a single word, "religion." A statement of hatred as bad as the one which just said the word "Islam." To hate "religion" because hate has been engendered in it's name is a shame indeed. And to hate A religion because hatred has been engendered in IT'S name is as great a shame upon us as the acts of hatred SOME members of a religion have unleashed.

Hate in return for hate is a cycle ALL all the central figures of the worlds religion have begged us to stop.

I'd definitely have to go with the Holocaust. That was such a tragic incident where so many were innocent people were slaughtered. It happened on such a larger scale than most of the tragedies we see. It is truly just devastating. I am appalled to share my species with such a man as Adolf Hitler...and here we are with Hitler Jr. running our country. The similarities are horrific. Why can't we just get along? If everyone could accept others and the fact that they are entitled to an opinion (whether right OR wrong) the world would be so much more of a peaceful place. I wish I could say that I see peace in our future, but it seems that everyone only finds hate and war to be the answers to get ahead. How terribly sad...

The Biggest shame, that continues to exist to this very day, is man's inhumanity to man. It has manifested itself in hundreds of genocides throughout history and the reasons in hindsight are always foolish. People hate others based on different skin colors, different religious beliefs, different political views and the hatreds are always self -serving.

There are too many to mention like genocide, persecution, dictatorships, and all of that, but the biggest shame would have to be when Adam and Eve ate that stupid apple. Oh, the grief those two have caused.

actual it rather is composed of two lies. Pls examine Genesis 3:4-5 In a nutshell they are: a million. you will no longer die once you disobey God 2. yet in fact in case you disobey, you would be like God. maximum of humanity nevertheless believes those 2.
