Jewelry is probably the biggest scam in the world. No matter what was paid for it, no matter what it is worth to YOU, you will never be able to sell it for what you have in it.

Generally speaking, if you paid $1,000 for a ring in a jewelry store, you MIGHT be able to get $500 for it selling it yourself.

There is a stigma attached to engagement rings. Ladies want a ring that is new, never worn, never owned. It's considered bad luck to buy a used one. Try advertising it in the classified section of your local newspaper, but first, have it appraised at a local jeweler and have the document to go with it.

Maybe your asking to much. You can only get about 1/2 to 1/3 what you paid for it. You can go to a pawn shop but that will be even less.

You need a certified gemologist report to sell a diamond I would think. I would not buy one from an individual without one. I can't tell a good diamond from a great one or probably a fake. Especially trying to sell one site unseen.

Go to several local jewelry stores. Some may offer cash, others may sell it on consignment.
