My dear Speckles passed away last night. He was my first fish and lived for 9 years. I buried him next to my dog's grave (who also lived to 9 before passing just a few months ago). I cried. It was heartwrenching.

How do you mourn your fish's death?

I'm so sorry to hear this has happened. I remember your original question about Speckles out here, and I know it's hard to lose even a aquatic buddy.

The best thing to know is that you were a good keeper of Speckles (I don't know too many people who have kept a fish for 9 years - it's doable, but not by mistake).

You are a credit to the hobby, and the best thing to do is to press on. Remember all the wonder things about Speckles, and the things you learned about caring for him while he was with you.

Please don't give the hobby up.

Take care

P.S. Why don't you come join me and other hobbyists out in the forums of these 2 really great boards...

I am very sorry about Speckles. It is sad when a beloved pet dies. Go ahead and cry and remember the good times you had. 9 years is a long time!

Wow- a fish that lived 9 years? That's a long time for a fish. I know how it feels to lose an animal, it fuckiing sucks. And even though it was just a fish, you had it for 9 years so it still hurts to see it dead.

My first fish was a mail betta. I came home one day for lunch and found him lying on the floor dry as a piece of beef jerky. I felt very sad. As I picked him up to bury him, I thought I felt him move. I put him back in the tank and suported him up right and he began to move a little more. After about 10 minutes he began to swim on his own. He lived another year. His name was "Blue Boy. After I buried him In my yard I went to buy another betta, but just couldn't buy another one, because I thought there would never be another like him. I was in a thrift store on day and seen this copy of the famous painting "Blue Boy" I thought what a great way to honer my departed fish.I bought that picture and hung it above his tank and there till this day.I didn't really mourn him I thought of all the plesure he gave me instead. You see I believe that all living things go to heven and that picture makes me smile.
