I see humility as our insides matching our outsides. So for someone who has to much pride yes humiliation would bring them down closer to humble. But for someone with no self esteem it would be very bad.
Honesty would be learned by being honest.
Being cheated however will give us insight into how it feels to be cheated.

no- one would learn these things by example. One might realize the value of these things through that but only if they have already learned them.
