What stopped Islamic civilisation developing?

Islam was far ahead of Europe in mathematics, astronomy, medicine at the time of the Crusades. Islamic scholars extended the knowledge of Greece and Rome, and inputs from India and elsewhere. That knowledge (including the zero), taken back to Europe by Crusaders etc, was far more significant in shaping the Renaissance, and our powerful, wealthy, modern Western civilisation than Medieval Christianity was. Yet although there are many brilliant individual modern Moslem thinkers, it seems Islamic civilisation stopped developing. Did Islam freeze in Medieval religious fundamentalism, while Europe slowly left it behind, and if so why? Or did something else stop Islamic modernisation?

what prevents Islamic civilisation from developing is prejudice and suspicion, not only from non-Islamic societies, but also within Islamic comunity itself. While we concern much about, rules and regulations, we forget that Qur'an also desires us to learn, explore and expand our knowledge.
War is the other factor. Starting with Jenghis Khan invasion across Islamic Persia that destroyed libraries and killed many Islamic philosophers, and followed by other wars both among Islamic countries for political domination, as well as more invasion from non Islamic countries, until today.
These wars, and ego-centered leaders -either Islamic or not, have led many of once prosperous Islamic countries to poverty that they are no longer able to support research and scientific endeavors.

The zero was invented by the MAYAS not ISlamic civilization. The 2 main factors was the Republic wich gave birth to democracy (france) rather than a weak form of aristocracy in Islamic culture. With republic type of goverment, a safe enviroment emerge for common people to express and interact with each other, not only in terms of trade and commerce but judge and critizes their destiny instead of having to be bounded by the idology of the king ruler

I suppose you are thinking of the Arab countries.
There is a moment in time when a society turns towards some form of democracy. When the West European countries started (and continued) to colonize they were not interested in democracies developing in their colonies. Far from it.
And the oil of course is an element which stimulates governments of other countries to keep the ruling classes in power. Those are the people they do business with.

The must Important reason is the corrupt leader both in religion and Politic,
the second but not less important one is the poverty, we know that the welt is ground stone for growing of knowledge in religion and elsewhere.

people from rome or other places stole the books (information that no one knew at that time)from the islamic people and killed all the important islamic scholars who knew this information...that's why... Because islam...at that time had almost all the cures to most illnesses that even today we havent discovered but back then they had that info.

Because it is totaly a sick religion and danger for humantity, it is a terrorist religion, which teach its follower to kill other religion's followers, it teach to hate and fight with others, it teach to rule on women and treat like animal with them by the men. It teachs to stop to develop yourself by using latest sciences and teach to live in 16 centuries situations. So, it is only cause to stp islamic civilization developments.

You hit it right on the head.When they began to conquer by the sword and tried to take Europe,that was it,and they are freakin' frozen in time.and if not for oil,they'd all be in tents and mud huts.
