I liked the movie well enough, but it hardly compared to seeing it on Broadway. The play version is incredible. I've seen it in New York and here i Portland, and both shows were phenominal. If you liked the movie, you should definitely look for an opportunity to see the play.
The play is a little bit grittier than the movie. There's more focus on the struggles these people are having. The Life Support meetings and the street life are featured a bit more prominently. The songs are essentially the same (some small changes, and the play had more music), but the play is just more complete.

I don't know anyone who has seen it on broadway, but I watched the movie. The only thing I knew about it was it was a musical. Other than that I didn't know anything. I thought it was very interesting and thought provoking and different than anything I usually watch. I wouldn't pick it as a family movie and my husband would of fallen asleep and begged me to not make him watch it anymore, but since it was just me, I enjoyed something a little different than "Shrek" and "Cars" and "Over The Hedge"!!! If you know what I mean!! It had a lot of deep things in it, and I usually like comedies though.

I watched the play and then the movie.
I liked it. The first time I saw it, it reminded me of The Rocky Horror Picture Show, which is one of the most ugly, horrible films in history. But it is also, suprisingly, a lot of fun.
Rent isn't as flawed. There are some flaws, yes, but they are very easily forgivable just because of the catchy songs, the value of the most passionate scenes, and the creativity to put two and two together from such a basic story.
RIP Mr. Larson. And thanks.

Don't know anyone who's seen it on Broadway or anywhere else for that matter. I seen the DVD, and loved it. I now own the DVD.

I rented it but just couldn't get into it. I think it's because I don't like movies with people singing all the time.

I liked it. I didn't see the play so I can't compare the two. The characters really drew me in. :-)
