Things cannot be distinguished without the ideas (criterions) that distinguish "self" from "non-self".

.... before an infant has formed concept of 'self' ( nor the 'non-self' concept) ... before this stage of mental development, the infant can distinguish between hunger and satisfaction, between pleasure and pain, between warm and cold.

This being observed, it follows that the original
statement in this question is "not correct".

Hi Fresh Bud,
Basically, what it narrows down
to is that if there is nothing to
compare the self with, it becomes
a non-self, thus incomparable,
unquantifiable, and finally,
non-existent.
