Try asking what he likes to do in his spare time, what music he listens to, ask him to tell you a funny joke... if you've seriously asked him everything and a conversation hasn't sprung from there, then this guy is lame! If you really like this guy then the conversation should flow naturally.

Quit trying to make small talk. The best part about being with someone really special that you really hit it off with is that you don't have to make small talk. Just be yourself, and if things get quiet, don't consider those times awkward, just think of them as times that you feel comfortable with each other. When you are comfortable with each other, you don't feel the need to keep each other entertained. You will find things to talk about when you stop trying so hard. Just enjoy each other...
