Yeah, most docs say you can start with cereal at about 4 months but really - baby's digestive tract is not fully developed until the age of 6 months!!! So, the sharp edges of the cereal flakes can cause scratching on the inside of baby's sensitive digestive system! There's NO reason to give baby anything else but breastmilk or formula (or water or baby tea) before that age! If s/he is still hungry nurse her/him again. If you think your breasts are empty - s/he'll stop nursing. Don't just let her suck "for fun". Make sure s/he's drinking.
Don't worry about not feeding baby enough!!! See how many people are overweight nowadays?!?!?!! I'm not saying 'put baby on a diet'! But let her/him and your own momma-gut-feeling rule!!!

4 to 6 months is the average. When my babies were not happy with just a bottle and were still hungry, I put a little cereal in the bottle. Then if that didn't satisfy them, on to solids. I did rice cereal as this was easy on the tummy.

Normally all the doctors will tell you no. I had to start feeding my son cereal at around 2mo. His doctor told me to because the formula wasn't satisfying him anymore. He was going thru 2 cans of formula a day @ that age. And the cereal, helped and he seemed more content and satisfied after that.

i started with my 2 kids when they were 3 months old. but know others to add some baby cereal into their bottles as early at 3 weeks.
if you are looking for ways to help him sleep longer you can try putting some in a bottle with formula or breast milk. before giving him it from a spoon he has to be able to hold his head up, and sit, with or without assistance without slouching down a lot. they say now not from a spoon til 4 months. but you can base it on how much and how often he eats too.

No solids (and this means anything apart from straight milk) until at least 4 months and that's at a push. Only if they are getting hungry and only then a little bit. Your babies insides can't cope with anything else other than milk just now. If your not sure talk to your health visitor. And when you do start solids, get good bibs with arms in them....stand back....and get the camera ready. Have fun.

Doctors say not until around 7 months (thats when they will supply it on WIC)

I started mixing cereal in my babys bottle at 6 weeks. Not to much. They could choke but enough to fill him up and let him sleep all night. (he started sleeping all night after I fed him cereal in his formula).

It is find to start early. No one ever goes by the book completely. No harm. My son is now almost 6 months old and loves the rice cereal.

that is relative. my daughter was 4 weeks. but she had projectile vomit because she could not hold down liquid. ask your doctor. if a child has reflux or colic it may be strongly recommended. heres a tip if baby does not want to go to bed a nice warm bottle thick with cereal always does the trick it really fills them up and makes them sleepy and they are less likely to wake up at 3 am--but ask your doctor and most of all you are a mom--use your intuition

Oh my gosh...slow down! The first year goes fast enough as it is! Most pediatrician say "not before six months". Their little tummy's can't properly digest food before then. Also, if you start too early, and your baby starts putting on weight too rapidly, you are putting him at risk for juvenile type 1 diabetes.

My doctor had me add cereal at about 9 weeks, because of a possible case of acid reflux. After that, I continued with it (only at night time) because I was afraid she would be too hungry without it, after being used to it for over a week. She has been fine with it, no problems at all.
