do ppl really listen when you specify which gender you want to answer? just wondering. but anyway.... I wanted to know what your opinion or answer would be. I have been very thin since I can remember. I have no eating problems what so ever. most of my friends and family say that I eat alot. the thing is that I barely gain weight. I have usually weighed a little over or under 100 lbs. The people that hate on me might call me anorexic because I do look very thin. So what do y'all think?? any suggestions would help
Thanks! : )

FYI - I gave birth to my daughter almost 3 years ago (in Nov. she'll be 3) and that was the heaviest i weighed in my life so far. I weighed 125 a day before I gave birth. and I lost all that weight in no time. I think it was all baby.

Sweety, this is simply the way that your body is made. You have an incredible metabolism. I was the same way my entire life until I hit 40 this year and all of the sudden I gained 25 lbs in two months. It may change when you are older but for some, it stays the same. Just brush off those people who make stupid comments. Just tell them, I am blessed to have a great metabolism and I can eat what I want. That is always what I said and it would make them mad cuz they struggled with GAINING weight. In todays society we are so used to people being OVERweight, that we do not know how to handle someone who is UNDERweight. Be thankful that you are healthy!

I have also always been very thin, now that I am older this has passed. If you eat properly there really is no harm in being thin and, as the other answerers said, it is probably your metabolism. If you feel you want to gain some weight you could go to a gym and work out a few times a week, not just cardio exercise but also weight training. In this way you will build up some muscle which makes you look less thin and might stop people talking to you about it all the time.

I am also a naturally thin person who has a naturally thin son. My son weighs 36kilos at the age of 14 years. I don't see that you should worry what people think as you most likely have a fast metabolism like I do. If you want to tone up you could go on a high protien diet and start attending a gym. This would give you muscle tone so it is obvious to people that you have a thin athletic body. Just think of it this way, when all the other women are wishing they were thinner you can still sit there and eat chocolate cake. My husband hates it when I do that as he just has to look at a piece and it attaches itself straight to his thighs or stomach. I think the big thing here is if you are happy with yourself dont worry what others think!

Well I don't know your eating issues, but I can honestly say I guess if you are really boney looking, and depending on how tall you are can make you look thinner also. So if you are like 5'5" tall and weigh 100 lbs or less. I would have to say you would look anorexic to me also. Have you had your thyroid checked. I had the same issue, but I had an either over or under active thyroid. You might want to look into that. There are medications you can take. I think 125 lbs. or 135 lbs. would be good for 5'5" tall. but yeah, you seem a little to thin gf.. get checked ok.. :)

I am taking a nutrition class right now and here is something to think about...

Before you worry about not being able to gain weight, concern yourself with eating a balanced and nutritious diet. Many people don't, whether they're fat or skinny. Go to mypyramid.gov and it will give you personalized advice on improving your diet. This is a *valuable and free* resource that *everybody* should take advantage of.

Here is one guideline that I recall without refering to my notes:

The *minimum* amount of protein that a person should eat can be calculated this way:

Divide your weight in pounds by 2.2 and multiply that number by .8

The number you get is the minimum number of grams of protein you should eat daily. Food labels list grams, btw.

Something else- never try to gain weight by consuming fried food like fries. The fat in fried foods and processed food, called trans fat, does not occur naturally and is almost as bad as poison. Buy food that doesn't contain trans fat- look for it on the label and ask for the nutrition info. from resteraunts. Most fast food is full of of trans fast- this is why fast food is so bad for you...

Off the top of my head here are some foods that are much safer to gain weight on:

Smoothies- they are loaded with sugar and calories.
Peanut butter- has protein and veggie fat without the animal fat.
100 percent fruit juice- lots of calories from fruit sugar without the refined sugar of donuts and candy bars
Nutella (found near peanut butter)- no trans fat spread made from hazelnut

Don't try to gain weight with protein shakes. They contain a massive amount of protein, too much protein for most people, and too much protein causes kidney damage. Protein shakes are appropriate for athletes only who exercise often and for people under the care of a licensed dietitian.

No......

You haven't said how tall or old you are. If you are within a couple of inches of five feet tall, then you are fine. If you are closer to five-six or more then you are a bit light. If this is the case then your metabolism is fast and needs to slow down, but this usually changes with age. Other factors are your activity level.

issues like this can only be answered by the people who have experienced this and hi!!!!!!!! i am one of them...but only till a year before....i have had exactly the same problems...and i think ignoring people who say mean things is the best...it hurts and haunts you....i know....do one thing eat healthy food....and junk food in the same quantities...really speaking potatoes helped me gain a lot of weight...for you it can be something else...remember if its hereditary ask your mom dad when they gained weight and believe me when you reach that certain age your health will also start improving...find out what helps you gain weight and keep eating but do remember also exercise when you eat so that you dont accumulate fat but musscles!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As long as you know you eat healthily, are not dizzy or faint, feel like you are getting your nutrition, then you are fine. If there are legitimate health concerns (diarrhea, weight loss, hair falling out), then I'd get checked. Some people have good metabolisms. If you are one of those, more power to ya!
