I'm 5'5 and wear a size 9. It seems like pants makers just assume that if you're a 9 or higher you're 5'10. Does anyone else have serious problems finding pants that aren't dragging the floor? What is the deal! I don't feel that I should pay to have pants tailored when I'm not spending that much on them in the first place.

Ok so here's what I'm gathering from this. Pants designers assume that all women are about 5'9. There's no shorter or taller. It seems like us average, short, and tall height people are just screwed. My sister is about 5'8 and she never has issues buying pants. I hate her! lol

Actually I didn't notice they were extremely long. I'm only 5'4" and size 7/8, but sometimes 9. I usually have to flip the cuff of my jeans up or hem my pants, but really not very much. Often I don't have to at all. I wonder where you are shopping. It's actually better and more stylish looking to have a break on your pants, that is they should look a little extra long, but not actually dragging on the ground. If they hold a little cuff that isn't bad either. Otherwise it's very easy to hem them yourself. Just turn them inside out and iron the turned up part after trying them on to make sure the length is just right, then hand stitch with a hidden stitch (only picking up a thread at a time on the out side), and if you do big quick stiches no one will know. Do this after washing them a couple of times because pants often shrink in length. You don't want to end up with flood pants!
Btw I'm in Canada, could be manufacturers assume we have more short people here, or just the difference between stores, I don't know...?

You're right. I really don't understand why they do this, because the average american woman is 5'4. There are two options. Either find the jeans you like but they should also have to "SHORT" option. Or if they don't go and get them tailored. It doesn't cost a lot. You will feel so much more comfortable with your appearance by getting them tailored!
Also... You could wear a heel or boot with the pant if it has a slight flare. Get a thinner shoe, it will extend the length of your leg, making you look thinner!

Yes, I notice this. I'm 5'4 and buy my pants in the petite's dept. But they're long enough for my boyfriend, who's 5'8! Petite's sizes are for women up to 5'4, so what are clothing designers thinking? I feel really bad for people who are really petite (like5'0). They'd have to have everything tailored. I can either wear my "petite's" pants with heels or try to tailor them myself. I refuse to pay to have it done because I'm cheap. Why don't ladies pants come in lengths the way mens pants do? It's so not fair that designers just expect women to have their one-length-fits-all pants tailored.

Not true at all. I am 5' 11" and womens clothes are not meant for the tall. Otherwise, they wouldn't make tall jeans.
Besides that, a lot of popular styles are meant to ALMOST drag on the floor... They are bound to go toward the middle so the short and tall have to deal with it.

yes! I'm 5'8" and even I have this problem. it annoys also because it can sometimes be hard to see how they fit when they go 3 inches past my heel. I end up rolling them up or folding the hem towards the inside so i can get some sort of clue as to what they look like. I don't fit into "petite clothing, either. I think designers assume we all have model legs. Lets protest!

I'm the same size as you and yes have you tried to check on the tags for average length and not tall? I have found to pick out average fits me better in the long wise I have the problem of the leg part being to big but fits me fine in the waist...Guess my legs are smaller than average..lol

I am also 5.5" and no, actually I've found until a few years ago when platform shoes once again became popular that women's pants were always too short. The standard length was 30" until a few years ago. Have you tried wearing petites?

They make it longer so women with shorter legs can alter them so they always get a good fit. If you really dont want really long jeans that kind of scrunch up at the bottom I suggest you go to Gap, they're jeans fit me perfectly everytime and its just the right length. Good luck!

I have this same problem. Average is too long, petite is too short, and tall is just out of the question. What is a girl to do?
