there is a world of educational opportunities available to people that are incarcerated. depending on the location of the inmate, type of institution and duration of sentance, they can receive degrees of many types and they are equivalent to that of a degree received in the "free world". unfortunately, the internet is not an educational tool that is available in most situations, however there will be a full library in addition to a law library. education is encouraged and is free. once released there are a number of educational grants and opportunites for the ex-offender. good luck,
happy thoughts of peace, love and light

I believe that prisons only offer GED programs and vocational training but I'm not completely sure. There are a few universities that offer online degrees so if a prisoner had access to a computer and the internet, I would imagine that doing this would be out of the question.

You can get a college degree through correspondence courses, my dad did a few to help him get his degree. I suppose that a prisoner could get a degree in the clink. As an employer I would still see it on the same level as a GED verses a HS Diploma.

As far as I know some do. For your area, call or email your Senator or Congressman's office, and they will check for you.
