On my Message Center, my Security Light Comes off and on. The Car still starts and runs fine. Could it be a Short in the wiring or should I take it to a Mechanic?

Before you go to that expense, read the owner's manual. I can clarify a great deal, ands save you the shop minimum fee (usually 1/2 hour at shop rates)
It would be good to know how it is flashing, and when. Some security systems flash for a minute or two after opening the doors, and stop after they have started and run for a few seconds.

Good Luck

Whatever the first guy said. Just to add my two cents here (and to help save you some headaches in the future), make sure you get your spedometer checked out too. I used to work for a mobile security company and we drove the same impalas. At least a quarter of our fleet does not have a working spedometer after 200, 000 kilometres. You can do the conversion yourself, but I just thought I'd give you that heads up.
