how bout a world with hydrogen cars.. that can run for free.. and only emit water vapors.. that way we don't have to invade other countries for oil.

Azura is asking a deeper question. As a research scientist, I find plenty of wonder discovering the complexities of nature. However when I go home and turn on the TV, there is no wonder. I would much rather listen to a travelling minstrel telling tales of magic around a campfire in medieval times. Surely the medieval people had more opportunity to exercise their imaginations than modern people have. Our technology may make us healthier in a physical sense, but does it make us better off in a psychic sense?

The only difference between the two is that the medieval magicians did not share the science behind their "magic."
Modern technology is deemed such because people understand the science.

Hmm. I always thought the old ways were simpler and somewhat more romantic in some respect. Technology saves a lot of time...but what to we do with that time other than rely on better technology to save more time. It's endless. Don't get me wrong. Give me a laptop and a serene place to write and I am in heaven. : )

If you mean magic that actually works, and that I have some control over and understanding of, I'll go for that. If you mean magic that doesn't exist, yet people still believe in (like religion), let's stick with technology.

you like a fantasy world. whether its magic of old times or flying cars of the future , right? either way , the people having magic or technology wins the game. those without magic/technology always lived and always will have the same life.

I like technology, because I can make it work. But I must respond to TheFreshM's post: we will NEVER have hydrogen cars whose fuel is free. In terms of the energy required to make it, hydrogen is very costly. It is also very difficult to handle, as it must be under extremely high pressure to be used as an automotive fuel.

Why can't technology fill you with a sense of magic, too?

I'd rather have technology anyday. It's mostly predictable, and anyone can use it. It's a huge democratizer/equalizer, and will be even moreso once we overcome the digital divide.

Of the 16 people here, 9 of us would be dead due to childhood diseases, or infections due to injuries that would all be cured easily by modern medicine and technologies such as X-rays. I would be one of them. (I was born with a digestive defect that would have killed me as an infant.)
Magic is nice ... but I'll take my technology, thanks.
