No expert, but pealrs can be natural, seeded, or artificial. A string of natural pearls of matching color and size is very valuable. A string of plastic look-alikes is not. A "small ruby" could be nearly priceless or worthless.

From the information you provided it's hard to tell. You did not specify the type of pearls. Sounds like they might be either freshwater or akoya though. Other factors of value you have to take into consideration include blemishes or imperfections that can be seen on the surface. If it is flawless it is worth more than pearls with blemishes. The roundness of pearls is also a value factor. I was able to dig up some information on the web at this site http://www.alohapearls.com/pearlgrade.php . This will give you a general idea of value factors but your best bet is to have it inspected and appraised by a GIA (Gemological Institute of America) graduate.

not possible to estimate without looking at the item. Still, a jeweller would b the best person to assess this. I love n collect jewelry but still can never accurately assess my own
