Mythology? I took a class on it in high school and it was fascinating. It's so entertaining to read. Not like funny entertaining, just... I guess fascinating. Am I alone? And does anyone know if you can actually major in this in college? Since I'm sure it's not true and the only use you would get out of a degree in Mythology would be teaching it.

I don't believe any accredited college would have a degree in Mythology ... but many have degrees in Literature and similar majors with emphasis on say ... ancient fiction, etc.

Any you're right ... the odds of you getting a job in that field would be next to nothing. Far better off getting a degree in a field that pays and keep the Mythology as a hobby. A bonus to following that path is that if it's a hobby you'll probably enjoy it more than if you had to deal with it every day, day after day .... never ending ... as in a job.

I can't say that I share your fascination with Greek mythology but I think It's great that you find it so entertaining and stimulating. Look, I think your right about it's value as far as a marketable skill goes, but don't let that discourage you from enjoying it.

A word of caution about the teaching however. Don't make the same mistake that I once did. As a younger person, I loved music and Spanish, so I majored in the music and minored in the Spanish. And yes, I took all the teacher education courses because I didn't know what else to do with my passion for these subjects. I taught high school for three years and guess what? I didn't like teaching at all because of all the problems I had with students. Quite frankly, I just wasn't effective as a disciplinarian or in matters of classroom management.

But here's an idea. If you really have this passion for mythology and love being a student, pursue a masters or doctorial degree in this field of literature and teach at the collegiante level. My brother has been a college math professor for thirty years and he wouldn't trade it for anything in the world including other careers in science or engineering where he could be making three or four times the money.

Best of luck to you.

Mythology is great. After learning about Greek and Roman...you should also explore Norse and Egyptian for an interesting reading.

Hope this helps. : )
