The city of Troy was discovered in the 1870's by German archaeologist Heinrich Schliemann. It is in the far north western area of modern day Turkey. (The Turks did not arrive in 'Turkey' until much much later).

After more than a century of excavation it has been revealed that Troy's history goes back far earlier than anyone ever thought, certainly further back in time than when the Tojan Wars were set.
