also i would like to know what is the legal tint that you can have in maryland.. and also what does a catalytic converter do to an engine. how does it boost an engine or is it even neccesary? also if i boost up my muffler and i am driving a stick shift with a 1.8 liter engine, will that help me much? thank you to all that answer. also, a comment. i tried to buy a maxima but people are not selling their maximas, they are holding on to them. and i do not blame them. how do you think this well affect the resale value of maximas dated from 1998, which to me was the best year of the maxina to the present. as you can tell i love nissan, nismo, maxima products however, i am still open to learning. thanks.

A sway bar is a solid bar that lays from left to right of the vehicle and is attached to the suspension at both sides of the car to reduce body roll.

A strut is like a shock but it also replaces the uppercontol arm. So, it has a bearing so that it can turn. Lends itself perfectly to a coil over design and reduces unsprung weight. In the early days when Mr. McPherson introduced his design the racers who employed it kicked total butt in the corners. This design was the beginning of performance handling.

Don't know about tint

A catalytic converter is ceramic honeycomb catalyst containing Platinum, Palladium, and Rhodium.
As exhaust passes by the material, the catalyst will either store oxygen when Eng. runs lean or release oxygen when Eng. runs rich. The Idea is to reduce the amount of raw hydrocarbon emissions by giving it a second chance to burn by introducing extra oxygen to a rich exhaust stream. It does restrict exhaust flow and can cause a reduction in available horse power.
It does not boost the engine but, it is required by law.

Muffler ---- No, it wont help you much.

I never drove a Maxima but, it sounds like you're in love. Congrats!

I did have a 73 Datsun 240Z. I really miss that car. It was wonder full!

Sway bars, or the real term, 'anti-roll bars' are metal 'bars' attached to the lower suspension control arms to minimize body 'roll' when turning or going around curves in your car. Usually, the bigger diameter the bar the less body roll you will have. The catalytic converter is essential to the emissions controls of all modern vehicles as they are designed to operate at very high temprature and remove harmful particulates from the engine exhaust. If the converter is in good condition (i.e; no blockage) it will have little effect on performance unless you intend to race. A 'cat-back' exhaust system is just a larger diameter exhaust tube and free flow muffler that replaces the stock unit from the catalyic converter back. (get it?). Forget the 90's Maximas -- the cars had a horrible habit of burning to the ground on a regular basis due to faulty fuel systems. Still plenty of them out there if you really have your sights set on one.
Just a thought --- have you ever given any consideration to perhaps buying a car with a V8? Truth be told, no matter how many modifications or money you pour into a ricer it will still be the little boy car vs the grown-up car. A highly modified ricer will also loose value faster than s*** through a goose compared to a strong Mustang, Camaro, etc.
