You can either change the language... or use the character map feature (this works better if you won't be using a lot of special characters.)

For character map... go to Start.. Programs... Accesories... System Tools... and Character Map... there you can see all the characters for a given font, select it, and paste it into your document. (It also lists an alt shortcut - for example, alt + 2468 gives you the n with the tilde.)

If you have Spanish language installed in your computer, you can changed it by going to the Control Panel and choosing Regional and Language Options. (This might change your keyboard setup.. not sure... but for example in France they use AZERTY, not QWERTY.... so if you press Q, might come out A... and things like that. Spanish is pretty similar to American, but like the ";" key is a different kind of c.) I would suggest this only if you'll be doing a lot of writing in Spanish.

The default installation of Windows 98SE leaves out that helpful Accessories-->CharMap program. Also, many people don't have their Number Lock key "On" their keyboard. (If we are talking about a Windows Machine). If so, look at your numeric keypad, top-left key which will turn a light on/off.

Spanish n will be CTRL-alt-0241 in most word processors.

In MS Word, use Insert Menu -- Symbol, for a chart for you to click the character you want.

For web pages you have to code the character so a web browser will show it correctly. In the HTML (text file) & n t il d e ; (no spaces) gives the correct character ñ in a Web browswer, and for Yahoo! Q&A.

There is an excellent article on Wikipedia explaning all of this in even greater detail. Go there if you have a Mac.

If you go into your graphics column, go to insert a special character, if you are using the word processing program.
