I guess for the same reason on every shopping mall map there is a circle or arrow that says "you are here"

Are you seriously asking, or just pointing this phenomenon out as amusing?
Let me attempt an answer in case you are serious. The Soul is directly connected to God, but this connection has long ago been forgotten by the Soul. Coming between ones Soul and God is ones MIND, which is very powerful, and filled with a great many "bits" of ones Apapsyche [Operational Energy of ones Soul] in the form of unpaid Karmic debts.
For many individuals, there is more of their Apapsyche invested in their MINDs than available to them as Apapsyche. This causes one to be subject to the dictates of ones MIND via ones Fate Karma to a large degree. To the point that everyone you meet in this life is a completing of some Karmic debt. Everyone you stand next to in line, or talk to at the super market, or gives way to you as you drive out, etc.
Almost everything we do, we have done before...not thankfully in not the same place, but we have done it all before, Only before we were the one giving way, the one reminding another of a dropped coin, etc. It's all about sowing and reaping. We previously sowed, and now we are reaping. Good or bad, it's due us.
So, in a very real sense, this entire creation is essentially a stage set up for oneself, and all others are actors for oneself... and one is doing the opposite of what one has done before... of course everywhere one goes, there one is.
The other reason this is so... is that ones Soul is oneself, and it is the actual experiencer of everything that happens. We do not lose the Soul until it becomes One with God.
