Go bold and use Ruby. Ruby is compliant with everything. The language is structured to have no set structure, sorta, so it interoperates with about every Hardware/Software environment that is known.
UNIX is still rocking large, most every decent server, or at least the ones that have proven to be most reliable are Linux, move
forward or laterally, progress is groovy.

It wouldn't be too hard if you knew PHP and SQL, depending on how skilled you are, it could take anywhere between 1 hour and 24.

Should be relatively simple if you're using SQL because of how it is structured, and PHP because of its flexibility.
