For that you have to change some settings on your computer, If you want to try it yourself. You have to find if some software of gotomypc is installed on your computer. First place to see is in controlpanel > add/remove programs. Uninstall the software if it is there.
Another place to look for it is the folder in program files
C:\program files\gotomypc
or similar. If you see the folder created by gotomypc, then delete it.
Third entry is in your registry.

the registry editor opens.
Click on Edit > Find
type gotomypc in it. and click on find next.
The registry editor will display an entry on the screen containing gotomypc, click on it, and press delete key on your keyboard.

I'm not that familiar with gotomypc.com but from a quick glance at their web-page here's how it works. It's based on Citrix (a remote access program) and stays connected to their network as long as the computer is on. This makes it easy for someone to establish a connection to your computer even if you're behind a firewall or on a private network.

This is definitely not something that is included with Windows so someone must have installed it and configured it. If your boyfirend blatantly logged into your computer to fix something then he either thinks you know about it or he is not quite the "comp.whiz tech eng" you think. From your statement that he avoided the question I would think the latter. Personally I find these kind of Lamers that think they are "hackers" by attacking extremely soft and trusting targets apalling.

BTW... I seriously doubt he's using RDP (Remote Desktop) to access your computer. You would be logged out to the login screen as soon as he logged in. It would also require him to make some changes in your firewall.

Good evening..

The person may have enabled something called remote desktop on your computer, and that is how he has instant access. He may have also turned on file sharing, etc.. I can let you know how to deal with these:

First, remote desktop...

Note: These are all for Windows XP.

1. Click start, and right-click on "My Computer"
2. Left click on "Properties" at the bottom of the menu that appears.
3. Once a multi-tab screen opens, left click on the tab "Remote" and uncheck any/all boxes you see in this tab. - You don't need to have these turned on.
4. Left-click apply at the bottom, then OK.
No more remote desktop for them!

As for file sharing, etc, the easiest way to block most things is to turn on the built-in windows firewall. To do this, assuming your using a broadband connection to get to the internet:

1. Click start, then Control Panel
2. Once the CP opens, double click on "Windows Firewall" towards the bottom of the list (This icon looks like a world with a brick wall in front of it)
3. Put the green dot in "ON" - Make sure you do NOT have a checkmark under it, at "Don't allow exceptions, or else you wont be able to tell the firewall to allow things like AIM and stuff to work.
4. Click OK at the bottom.

This is a very basic way of stopping a few different methods of getting into your computer. If this doesn't stop it, you might need to use the Windows System Restore program inside of Accessories--->System Tools in your start menu to make your computer go back in time to before your ever so wonderful boyfriend got ahold of the computer in the first place.. Keep that one in mind :)

Good luck to you!

I just want to beat the crap out of your boyfriend, just on the grounds that he's a @#$%@$@#$@# spammer. Maybe you should post the address of the place he works too.

Someone here already explained about the gotomypc.com software. Even if he didn't use that software, there are other programs which could installed on your computer in order to get into it.

In a regular computer set up with a firewall, Anti-virus software, etc., a hacker can't get into your computer - unless there is a known flaw in your software. Problems occur only after you've unknowingly downloaded a malicious program or ActiveX control. So then, the malicious program is BEHIND your security shield.

it looks like this website is used primarily for people that travel a lot and are away from home a lot for work or other reasons. And they need access to their home computer or a remote computer for files, or something else. Tell him you know what he's been doing, and if he admits it, then dump him.. If he denies it, then dump him. What a loser for spying on you.....

Go to my pc is a remote desktop application. He installed it. Of course he has complete control of your machine, that's the purpose of the program: remote control of your desktop. Uninstall the app, problem gone.

1. Go here and get this program. It will detect spyware on your machine and remove it for you. Best of all, it's free.

2. Dump the boyfriend.

I am not familiar with gotomyPC, but there must be some software or setting on your PC that lets him do this. perhaps someone who uses gotomypc can tell us what it is. Just deinstall it, or tighten up your firewall.
