Theme parks are expensive to run successfully these days.
There was a time when smaller parks could succeed in small communities based on local traffic, but now they face a double problem. We have a mobile populus that can travel to larger parks in nearby states. We have a lot more entertainment options - the rides that small parks can offer just can't draw enough people away from other forms of entertainment to make them viable.
The big thing in theme parks these days are big rides. Big rides are big money. Big money comes from lots of visitors. Lots of visitors come from being located in a densely populated area.
To be viable, theme parks need visitors in the millions each year. Nebraska doesn't have the population density to support large park. Anyone looking to open a large park looks towards larger metro areas.
