I have a carpet python that hides like all day and then comes out at night. The weird thing is, i leave my heat lamp on during the day but he doesnt use it. I leave an infrared heat lamp on at night, thats when he comes out to bask. That makes no sense at all cuz in the wild they dont have the chance to bask at night. My question is, is it normal for my carpet to hide during the day and then bask at night??

Pythons are generally nocturnal critters and while you are attempting to provide heat, I have to say something: get a heat pad and a UV light.
Imagine your eyes taped open and that bright light in your face. How would you react? Not being mean-- just stating that you should take the animals health into consideration. They need a photoperiod-- that is an amount of light and amount of dark. The UV light helps the snake produce vitamins.
Snakes do not absorb heat directly from the sun so much as they do from the ground on which they lie. Therefore, a heat pad is ideal for duplicating nature when combined with UV lights. Carpet pythons require a 12/12 mix photoperiod- 12hours light, 12 dark. Give the snake this and you will see a healthier pet.

they only come out at night leave the red light on all the time and get rid of the other one you dont need it. Mines been fine for three yrs with a red light granted its a corn snke not a python but its over 5 ft! I know sounds big but its true. so red light will be fine :)

They are mostly nocturnal, he may not like the bright light. Try leaving the red light on all the time, he may even come out more in the day.
