Actually, a small sportbike is an excellent bike to learn on - with the basic caveat about not 'over-biking' yourself, which would be the same with any style of bike!

Whatever you decide on, I'd really recommend purchasing a used bike, since you'll probably drop it a time or two in the first few months of riding (tip overs in the parking lot, etc.)

The Ninja 250 is great, also Yamaha made a little SRX250 back in the 1980's that's a fun machine. Both are usually relatively cheap on insurance, especially if you get an older machine.

With a used bike, be sure to have new, very good tires mounted, have the brakes checked, and take the rider safety course, buy the best helmet you can afford - always wear gear, then go out and have fun!

The words "beginner" and "sportbike" don't go together.

A sportbike is a powerful motorcycle that is designed to respond very quickly to control inputs. It doesn't give a beginner much room to make a mistake.

Better choices would be a cruiser, a dual-sport, or a basic street bike. Their responses are less sharp and they give a beginner a somewhat more forgiving ride.

Once you have a year or two of riding under your belt, you'll be able to ride a sportbike much better.

Whatever you choose, get good protective gear. Most all riders fall off sometime, dress for it. And take a training course. Google "motorcycle safety foundation" and/or check with your community college.

Ride safe.

It won't matter which one until you have some experience riding! Just get on something & do it & your preferences will come later!Move away from the computer & get on a bike!

Ninja 250. Buy a used one though because you'll outgrow it pretty soon.
